Leigh Spinners Mill Education Strategy
Leigh Spinners will be an education resource for the Borough of Leigh and will act as a centre for ideas, skills, talents and learning regeneration. The Trust is committed to providing access to a rich and varied educational resource to benefit all, which maximises the heritage potential of our listed building.
The Trust is committed to the principle of lifelong formal and informal learning and will thus seek to ensure that all residents of the area can benefit from the opportunities provided by Leigh Spinners Mill. The Trust is also committed to supporting the priorities of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), specifically in achieving “young people equipped for life”, “good jobs for people to progress and develop” and “a thriving economy”. 
Ensure that the Leigh Spinners Mill is accessible to all residents.
Ensure that educational and learning opportunities are available to all
Ensure that the Leigh Spinners Mill and the work of the Building Preservation Trust develop excellent educational and employment pathways, especially in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)
Ensure that partnership working remains a key element of the Trust’s work in the field of education and learning    
1.1 Invest in building works which enable all potential users to access the facilities
1.2 Publicise the Mill through all available channels as an educational and learning resource
1.3 Utilise social and other media to facilitate access
1.4 Develop educational and heritage resources, which appeal to all potential users, especially those groups, who may not traditionally access such facilities
2.1 Work with schools, colleges and educational providers to publicise the Mill’s facilities for education and learning
2.2 Increase the opening times of the Mill to enable more residents to access the facilities
2.3 Consult with local people of all ages and backgrounds on how the Mill can meet their educational and learning aspirations
2.4 Put arrangements in place to ensure that people are not prevented from accessing the Mill’s education offer because of financial or other hardships
2.5 Work with users and tenants of the Mill to offer work experience and apprenticeship opportunities
3.1 Work with training and learning providers to further develop opportunities in the STEM area
3.2 Utilise the Mill’s engineering heritage as a focus for STEM learning
3.3 Develop curriculum packages for all Key Stages of learning, which take advantage of the Mill’s heritage
3.4 Develop programmes that encourage more girls and women into engineering and science
4.1 Keep abreast of current developments in education and learning at a local, regional and national level
4.2 Participate in local educational consortia
4.3 Develop working relationships with all local schools in curriculum planning and associated areas
